Roger Hembrough
2201 is the electronic/ambient music project of Roger Hembrough, an experienced music producer and composer from Manchester, UK with a demonstrated history of working in the music industry and experience in music for film, stage and multimedia.
His inspirations include Cage, Eno, ELP, Pink Floyd, and Yes. His experimental electronic works are deeply introspective, characterised by slow shifting instrumental soundscapes aimed at encouraging a deep immersive listening experience.
Drawing on a wide range of sources, including raw and altered field recordings, analogue and digital sound synthesis, his work encourages the listener to explore notions of perception, context, and movement, through the construction of immersive spaces that seek to heighten the audience’s awareness of the present moment.
Studio history
In the 1970's he opened Beechcroft Studios in North Wales, UK recording folk groups and cutting his teeth recording Banjo, acoustic guitar and Bodhran.
In 1980's he moved to France creating SoWeirdProductions where he worked with theatrical groups, film production companies, game designers and bands from France, Germany and Spain.
Now a new chapter begins back in the UK in rural Warwickshire, with the construction of a purpose built studio where under the moniker 2201 the focus will move back to his original passion for dramatic and emotional audio landscapes. Future releases will be made mainly on his own '2201 Recording' label.
